Resilience, Coping Methods, and Quality of Life in Middle-aged Women

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify resilience, coping methods, and quality of life according to general characteristics of middle-aged women.
Methods: Participants were 119 middle-aged women living in the capital area. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires which were constructed to include scales to measure resilience, coping methods and quality of life. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, Pearson¡®s correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 18.0.
Results: Resilience was different depending on economic state. Quality of life was different depending on education, economic state, and occupation. There was a positive correlation between resilience and quality of life. There was a positive correlation between coping methods and quality of life. Multiple regression analysis showed resilience and coping methods significantly influenced quality of life in middle-aged women.
Conclusion: The results that the quality of life increases in proportion to one¡¯s ability to cope with tasks and resilience. Thus, programs for nursing interventions to strengthen resilience and coping methods should be developed for middle-aged women.
